Nothing signals the start of winter quite like

Numbers.

a $17million budget.

Landing in third place was Joker: Folie à Deux. After winning the box office competition during
its debut weekend could not overcome the bad reviews,
enduring an 82-percent decline in ticket sales.

The movie collected only $7.055 million, in spite of being in more than four thousand theaters across the US.

Nov 26 (Reuters) – The benchmark S&P 500 and the Nasdaq extended recent gains on Tuesday,
as technology stocks rebounded, while investors parsed
Donald Trump’s tariff pledges on top trade partners and awaited minutes from the Federal Reserve’s latest meeting.

President-elect Trump said he would impose a 25% conditional tariff on Canadian and Mexican imports that could violate a free-trade deal he negotiated during
his previous term. He also outlined “an additional 10% tariff, above any additional tariffs” on imports from China, raising the risk of
trade wars.

Automakers such as Ford and General Motors -that have highly
integrated supply chains across Mexico, the U.S. and Canada –
lost 2.8% and 7%, respectively.

However, some analysts said that the threats might just be used as a negotiating tool.

“At this point it’s probably too early to tell. But I don’t think it’s something that is over and I wouldn’t be shocked if we turn the new year and all of a sudden this becomes a big issue,” said Joe Saluzzi, co-head of equity trading at Themis Trading.

At 9:42 a.m. ET, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 197.32
points, or 0.44%, to 44,539.25, the S&P 500 gained
11.76 points, or 0.20%, to 5,999.13 and the Nasdaq Composite gained 81.01 points, or 0.43%, to 19,135.84.

Gains in megacaps such as Nvidia, Microsoft and
Apple boosted the information technology sector and also the tech-heavy Nasdaq.

The blue-chip Dow was weighed down by declines in Amgen , which lost 11.5% after its experimental obesity drug

fell short

of expectations.

Yields on Treasury bonds, that had slipped in the previous session following Scott Bessent’s selection as incoming Treasury
secretary, rose and kept a lid on equities’ gains.

The S&P 500 touched a record high on Monday and logged its sixth-straight session of gains, while the Russell 2000 also scaled an all-time high after three years.
On the day, the small-cap index was down 0.4%.

Minutes from the central bank’s meet earlier this month will be in focus on the day.
Top on the radar this week is the personal consumption expenditure report due on Wednesday.

Analysts say Trump’s trade and fiscal policies,
though seen as a positive for companies and economic growth, could
stoke inflation pressures and slowdown the Fed’s
monetary policy easing cycle.

Minneapolis Federal Reserve President Neel Kashkari, typically seen as hawkish on monetary policy, said he is open to cutting interest
rates again next month.

Traders have recently swayed in placing their bets on the central bank’s move in December and currently favor a 25-basis point interest rate cut by a 56.2% chance, as per the
CME Group’s FedWatch Tool.

Among others, Eli Lilly rose 3.7% after U.S. President Joe Biden was set to
propose expanding Medicare and Medicaid coverage for anti-obesity drugs.

Best Buy lost 8.8% and was among top decliners on the S&P 500 after trimming its annual profit and
sales forecasts.

Declining issues outnumbered advancers by a 2.12-to-1 ratio on the NYSE and by
a 1.62-to-1 ratio on the Nasdaq.

The S&P 500 posted 26 new 52-week highs and three new lows, while
the Nasdaq Composite recorded 45 new highs and 29 new lows.

Joaquin Phoenix has revealed that he spoke with filmmaker Christopher Nolan about playing

The movie studio spent about $200 million to produce the film and about $100 million on marketing and distribution, according to the report.

It would need to gross about $450 million at the box office to break even — when factoring in the cut taken by theaters — though Warner Bros.

A Warner Bros. spokesperson responded to the report, saying

the film, with DC bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran notably absent from the film’s LA premiere afterparty last month. 

A source said: ‘If the first movie was about some down-on-his-luck, mentally
ill guy in a downtrodden city, it makes maybe $150 [million] worldwide.
Not a billion. People showed up because that guy was Joker.’

In an apparent snub by Phillips, the opening sequence of the film does not include a DC Studios
logo.

A Warner spokesman added that a DC logo appears at the
end of the Joker sequel, while Phillips declined to comment to the publication.

Several frictions are said to have developed between Phillips, DC and Warner- with claims
that Michael DeLuca, Chairperson of Warner
Bros. Entertainment, and CEO Pamela Abdy
seemed ‘unwilling’ to say no to Phillips due to his huge past successes.

It is claimed Phillips would ‘only’ speak with DeLuca and Abdy rather than Gunn and Safran – who took control of DC two months before production began on Joker 2 in December
2022.

Gunn and Safran did attend the first director’s
cut screening for the studio but Phillips fueled rift speculation when he told
a reporter: ‘With all due respect to them, this is kind of a Warner Bros.
movie.’

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav also met
with Phillips shortly after WarnerMedia and Discovery merged in April 2022 and
was ‘open to filming in Los Angeles if the
director would make the sequel at a lower price point.’

The studio wanted to film in London which would have cost
around 20 per cent less.

A source directly involved with the film recently shared: ‘The one thing about genre stuff: If you don’t listen and pay attention to what the fan expectations are, you’re going to fail’; director

However, Phillips insisted on filming in LA with the budget remaining static.

A Warner spokesman told the publication the studio ‘supported the decision to film in Los Angeles’.

A source directly involved with the film said:

Insiders also claim studio bosses did not want to premiere the film at
the Venice Film Festival, but Phillips pushed back – with a Warner spokesman saying the studio
‘fully supported the decision to bring the film to Venice. 

Along with Gaga and Phoenix, other stars that had
appeared in the sequel include Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Zazie Beatz and Steve
Coogan.

Adam Bandt said people ‘can make their own judgment’ about
him enjoying an exclusive and discretionary perk from Qantas during a tense exchange with a journalist live on radio.

The Greens leader has been outed as a member of the Qantas Chairman’s
Lounge, an invitation-only set of catered waiting areas and services handed out by the airline in what has
been called ‘Australia’s most exclusive club’.

Mr Bandt was challenged on Monday by ABC Radio National stand-in host Steve Cannane that he
was ‘enjoying free hospitality from a company that has illegally
sacked hundreds of workers’.

Mr Bandt replied: ‘And I’ll declare that and people can make their own judgement
about what they think about that.’

Cannane was referring to the Federal Court’s ruling that Qantas illegally
sacked 1,700 workers at the start of the Covid pandemic
in a case brought by Transport Workers Union. 

Commenting on the sacking in June of 2020, Mr Bandt called it a ‘devastating
day for thousands of Qantas workers & their families’ in a Facebook post.

‘We’re thinking of you,’ he wrote.

Cannane challenged Mr Bandt further saying: ‘You don’t think you should be
a little purer on this and just not take their (Qantas’s) hospitality?’

Mr Bandt said he always made declarations about matters such as this and argued that the party’s policies to tax big corporations heavily
show the perks were not impacting the Greens.

Mr Bandt used two private jets during the 2022 federal election campaign, landing
tax payers with the $23,000 bill. 

One flight was between Queensland regional centres Townsville and Rockhampton on March 7
but he also boarded a $15,000 private plane along the well-travelled Brisbane to Canberra route to attend
his party’s election campaign launch.

Mr Bandt isn’t the only politician in the hot
seat with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese being asked if he has included both his son and partner as
‘plus one’ Chairman’s Club members.

He is also being asked about free flight upgrades including an international
one he is alleged to have received from Qantas in new book The Chairman’s Lounge authored by former Australian Financial Review columnist Joe Aston.

The Greens are licking their electoral wounds after the Queensland state poll, where they are battling to
hold onto their two seats after stating they aimed
to triple their representation in parliament.

With 72 per cent of the vote counted they appear to have retained the Brisbane
seat of Maiwar but suffered a 4.6 per cent swing to the ALP.

However, they remain behind South Brisbane, which
has seen a massive 12.4 per cent swing to Labor with 64 per cent
of votes counted.

SAN FRANCISCO, March 23 (Reuters) – South Korea’s LG Energy Solution plans to build a battery factory in Arizona to supply to Tesla and other customers,
two persons familiar with the matter told Reuters.

The U.S. factory is expected to produce cylindrical battery cells of different sizes, for customers, including EV
makers Lucid and Proterra and Philip Morris, maker of IQOS heated-tobacco
sticks, one of the persons said.

Another person said startups like electric scooter makers will use batteries from
the factory.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said on Tuesday that battery production would be “the limiting factor” for vehicle production in two to three years, as the world’s largest electric vehicle maker aims to boost sales.
He has called on suppliers to raise production, while Tesla starts making cells itself.

LG did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request to comment outside normal business hours.
Tesla, Lucid, Proterra did not immediately respond to request for comment.

Philip Morris declined to comment.

Japan’s Panasonic Corp, one of Tesla suppliers, along with Contemporary Amperex Technology Co, is
also looking to invest billions of dollars to build a factory to make a new type of electric vehicle (EV) battery for Tesla Inc,
public broadcaster NHK reported earlier this month.

Panasonic is looking at building the factory in either Oklahoma or Kansas, not far from
Tesla’s new Texas vehicle plant, NHK reported.

Sherry House, CFO of Lucid, which has a car factory in Arizona, told Reuters
last month that it had signed multi-year supply agreements with
two battery suppliers, and the agreement “does have some capacity coming from state-side cell lines.”

She did not identify the companies. Lucid sources batteries from LG
and Samsung SDI.

LG, which raised more than $10 billion in its initial public offering in Korea in January, has announced a flurry of
battery joint ventures with GM and Stellantis in the United States and Canada.

In August, U.S. President Joe Biden signed an executive order aimed at
making half of all new vehicles sold in 2030 electric.

A swanky London steakhouse is facing backlash over its introduction of charges for
tablecloths and napkins.

Diners at the London Steakhouse restaurant, which was opened by celebrity chef Marco Pierre White in 2008, are now expected
to fork out an additional cover of £1.50 per person.

The restaurant, located near Liverpool Street train station, has
stated that this will be a fixed fee ‘to cover the cost of table
linen and napkins’, with a discretionary service charge of 9.5 per cent also
appearing on bills.

Industry experts have cautioned though that this could be just the start of restaurants seeking more ‘innovative’ ways to raise additional revenue from customers.

Off the back of the government’s autumn budget which saw
both the minimum wage and national insurance rates increase, restauranteurs have been warning that prices must rise
for them to be able to foot the bill.

From April, the national minimum wage will increase by 6.7 per cent to £12.21 per
hour, with employer’s NI charges to jump by 1.2 per cent. 

Conservative party leader Kemi Badenoch has previously
claimed the national minimum wage is detrimental to
British businesses, and told this year’s Tory conference that it was ‘over-burdening’ many small enterprises.

The London Steakhouse appears to be reacting proactively to its impending
expenditure increases, through both the tablecloth and napkin fee along with a host of other charges.

The charges for the linen are displayed on the restaurant’s à la carte menu, with
the set menus seeing additional charges such as
a £1 head cover fee.

A 12.5 per cent service charge is also added to
set menu bills, as the self-proclaimed ‘linen-topped table dining’ establishment seemingly seeks
more ways to charge patrons.

The cover charge concept is one which is standard practice
in many places around Europe, particularly in Italy where the ‘coperto’ charge covers table linen and bread.

Cover charges are becoming ever more prevalent in the UK, with Harrdos also recently jumping on the trend and implementing a £1 levy at
its London eateries.

Other charges laid out on the London Steakhouse’s website include a
£10 fee for booking certain set menus over two days in advance.

This fee is not considered as a deposit by the restaurant and is not credited from your final
bill, but rather a charge simply allowing you to make your reservation. 

Consumer specialist Jane Hawkes told the Telegraph that the introduction of
such fees is unfair on diners and that customers should be made to feel valued
by businesses, rather than ‘bamboozled’.

One potential unintended consequence of these fee introductions is that
patrons will feel less obliged to pay service charges or leave behind tips.

Despite new legislation coming into effect in October
which ensures staff receive equal distribution of tips, industry expert
Ms Hawkes says that this may prove to be redundant if fee gouging persists. 

The London Steakhouse restaurant has been approached by the MailOnline for comment.
